Introduction.

What with risk of the usual illnesses and colds, not to mention swine flu, likely to lay you low at any time – boosting your bodies defense system could be just the thing to keep you healthy. Your body has a wonderfully complex mixture of cells and proteins that work to defend you against the harmful infectious micro-organisms that are all around us. These body defenses also play a vital role in battling and controlling cancers, allergies and even hyper-sensitivity.

Herbal system boosts.

For a long time proclaimed by medical herbalists as a cure for the seasonal flu epidemics that come around, which this year means swine flu, is taking two Echinacea tablets two or three times a day accompanied by a 300mg tablet of St Johns Wort, three times a day. To further boost your bodies defenses you should also drink a herbal tea made from 10g of mint, 10g of elderflower and 10g of yarrow.

Nuts to boosting your defenses.

Brazil nuts are rich in selenium - excellent for your defense system.

That’s not to say “nuts to boosting your defense system” but that nuts can also be used to boost your bodies defenses. Research out of the University of North Carolina has shown that the mineral selenium can be very effective in boosting the defense, or immune, system and battling influenza viruses in particular. So, another ideal way to battle swine flu this year will be to eat just three Brazil nuts a day that are rich in selenium.

Raw garlic is good for you too.

Leaving aside stereo-typical jokes about the French; but chewing raw garlic can be very good for your defense system. When garlic is crushed a super-nutrient called allicin is released. Chewing is exactly the same process as crushing, so by chewing raw garlic you could be helping your bodies defense system, as allicin is known to block the ability of viruses to enter and then damage your tissue.

Don’t forget …

Please note, if you have an ongoing medical condition do read the information on the packets to check for advice about dosages and combinations of drugs that should be avoided.
